We also design immersive gastronomical study tours that delve deep into the classical and contemporary world of food and drink, the sources of premium produce and cutting-edge methods of sustainable agricultural and livestock farming.

Our Team: Meet Our Founder & Partners

Jim So
Founder & CEO

The Culinary Artist began when Jim So, Founder and CEO, was born and raised in the UK, where he honed many lifelong skills working in family restaurants and catering businesses. In 2023, he was selected to participate in an exclusive UNESCO-UNEVOC Leadership Programme. As part of the programme, he developed an ‘Action Plan for Change’ focussed on “Developing International Training and Employment Pathways for Culinary, Baking and Pastry Chef Trainees in the Asia-Pacific. Highly motivated by this recognition, he decided to “walk the talk” and launch the company.

Passionate about education and providing pathways to meaningful and fulfilling careers, Jim has over 20 years’ experience working in education, including senior leadership roles in world class companies such as Cambridge English (part of the University of Cambridge) and Pearson. He has worked on vocational development projects with the Asia Development Bank (ADB) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) and is the founder of the APAC TVET Forum opened by former New Zealand Prime Minister Chris Hipkins.

Jim graduated with a master’s from the University of Leeds and a master’s from the University of Cambridge, and achieved a Distinction from the UNESCO-UNEVOC TVET Leadership Programme which laid the foundations for establishing The Culinary Artist.

Jim now resides in Hong Kong and Malaysia with his partner and dog. He loves food from across the world and has a particularly sweet tooth.

Lexine Hepworth
Advanced Culinary Training Consultant

Lexine is a specialist in bespoke training and professional development for culinary schools, restaurants, hotels, and the wider hospitality industry across the Asia-Pacific region. She works closely with organizations to create tailored programs that meet their unique needs, focusing on culinary excellence, team development, HACCP and operational efficiency.

Born into a family-owned hotel in England, at 16, Lexine moved to France to train at the prestigious Lycée-Hôtelier Quercy-Périgord, where she quickly made her mark. She won both national gold medals for "Best Apprentice in France" and the "Trophée Jean Rougié" – the only person ever to win both distinguished titles.

Lexine's professional journey includes working at the 3 Michelin-starred The Waterside Inn in Bray under Chef Alain Roux of the renowned Roux dynasty. She has catered for high-profile events, including Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday celebration at London’s Guildhall.

In 2018, Lexine took on the role of Chef de Cuisine at The Hong Kong Jockey Club, where she led a team of 90 chefs, specializing in Western cuisine, hygiene standards, and kitchen organization.

In 2022, she became Chef de Cuisine at Popinjay’s in The Murray Hotel (a Niccolo Hotel) further cementing her reputation as a leader in the culinary field.
