Our Team: Meet Our Founder & Partners

Jim So
Founder & CEO

The Culinary Artist began when Jim So, Founder and CEO, was born and raised in the UK, where he honed many lifelong skills working in family restaurants and catering businesses. In 2023, he was selected to participate in an exclusive UNESCO-UNEVOC Leadership Programme. As part of the programme, he developed an ‘Action Plan for Change’ focussed on “Developing International Training and Employment Pathways for Culinary, Baking and Pastry Chef Trainees in the Asia-Pacific. Highly motivated by this recognition, he decided to “walk the talk” and launch the company.

Passionate about education and providing pathways to meaningful and fulfilling careers, Jim has over 20 years’ experience working in education, including senior leadership roles in world class companies such as Cambridge English (part of the University of Cambridge) and Pearson. He has worked on vocational development projects with the Asia Development Bank (ADB) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) and is the founder of the APAC TVET Forum opened by former New Zealand Prime Minister Chris Hipkins.

Jim graduated with a master’s from the University of Leeds and a master’s from the University of Cambridge, and achieved a Distinction from the UNESCO-UNEVOC TVET Leadership Programme which laid the foundations for establishing The Culinary Artist.

Jim now resides in Hong Kong and Malaysia with his partner and dog. He loves food from across the world and has a particularly sweet tooth.

Olivia Buffeteau
FERRANDI Paris - Head of International Business Development

FERRANDI-Paris is one of the world’s best culinary and hospitality schools and trains the elite in gastronomy and hospitality. A member of the Conférence des Grandes écoles (CGE), FERRANDI Paris has 5 campuses in France and is considered the premier school for aspiring chefs and hospitality professionals offering specialized programs tailored for international students from around the world. With state-of-the-art facilities, expert instructors, and a curriculum that blends traditional French techniques with modern innovations, you’ll gain invaluable skills and experience.

In collaboration with the renowned hospitality institution, The Culinary Artist and Olivia Buffeteau at FERRANDI Paris, work together to facilitate training and internships in France. This partnership aims to elevate your culinary ventures to new heights.

Olivia Buffeteau is a formidable force in the culinary and hospitality industries. As the Head of International Business Development at the prestigious FERRANDI Paris, she blends strategic vision with hands-on expertise to drive international expansion. Her impressive career includes roles such as International Project Manager at Audencia and Board Member at the renowned Festival des 3 Continents.

Ángel Moretón
e-Spain - Founder & CEO

Founded In 2016 by Ángel Moretón, e-Spain is a learning platform aiming at increasing intercultural understanding through gastronomy, food, and wine by arranging internships at Michelin starred and high-end restaurants, including Disfrutar – voted the 2024 best restaurant in the world - and organising bespoke study and gastronomy tours in Spain and Portugal.

Ángel Moretón, founder of e-Spain, a renowned Spanish gastronomy expert and lawyer, and a key figure in setting up the International School of Culinary Arts in Spain. He has designed numerous international hospitality programs for the past 15 years, including the Concours Mundial de Bruxelles, and has been a jury member at the Bocuse d'Or Competition in Spain. Ángel has also been awarded with the Excelencias Gourmet Recognition in 2015 for his efforts in promoting Spain and Spanish gastronomy. He is also a member of the Valladolid Academy of Gastronomy.

Ángel and Jim share the vision of providing immersive culinary education and unparalleled global opportunities for aspiring chefs and hospitality professionals. By leveraging their complementary expertise and extensive networks, e-Spain and The Culinary Artist provide an invaluable international experience and career development platform for aspiring chefs.

Lexine Hepworth
Advanced Culinary Training Consultant

Lexine is a specialist in bespoke training and professional development for culinary schools, restaurants, hotels, and the wider hospitality industry across the Asia-Pacific region. She works closely with organizations to create tailored programs that meet their unique needs, focusing on culinary excellence, team development, HACCP and operational efficiency.

Born into a family-owned hotel in England, at 16, Lexine moved to France to train at the prestigious Lycée-Hôtelier Quercy-Périgord, where she quickly made her mark. She won both national gold medals for "Best Apprentice in France" and the "Trophée Jean Rougié" – the only person ever to win both distinguished titles.

Lexine's professional journey includes working at the 3 Michelin-starred The Waterside Inn in Bray under Chef Alain Roux of the renowned Roux dynasty. She has catered for high-profile events, including Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday celebration at London’s Guildhall.

In 2018, Lexine took on the role of Chef de Cuisine at The Hong Kong Jockey Club, where she led a team of 90 chefs, specializing in Western cuisine, hygiene standards, and kitchen organization.

In 2022, she became Chef de Cuisine at Popinjay’s in The Murray Hotel (a Niccolo Hotel) further cementing her reputation as a leader in the culinary field.
